RYA POWERBOAT & PERSONAL WATERCRAFT INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

Looking to advance your watersports skills and employment opportunities like a Superyacht instructor?

The Super Yacht and Marine industry always need instructors to train clients. This could be on a yacht where you are looking after the watersports department. Rules and regulations are in place and Superyachts need to comply. This means operators of Powerboats (Tenders) and PWC (Jet Skis) must have training and certificates.

Relevant experience and qualifications are needed. Your skills would include:

  • Launching of trailers
  • Docking
  • Planning routes
  • Familiar with charts
  • Rules of the road
  • Lights and buoys etc.

HOW DO I BECOME A POWERBOAT / SUPERYACHT INSTRUCTOR OR PWC (JET SKI) INSTRUCTOR?

The 2 main requirements are 2 years of relevant boating experience. This would be you as skipper most of the time. Your skills would include, launching of trailers, docking, planning routes, familiar with charts, rules of the road, lights and buoys etc. The second is a personality and passion for inspiring others in boating.

The qualifications needed prior to the instructor course are short one or 2-day courses which we can provide for you.

RYA Powerboat Instructor

RYA POWERBOAT INSTRUCTOR COURSE

This 3-day course trains you in the various techniques and teaching methods required to instruct the RYA Level 1 and 2 syllabi. You will plan and run a number of classroom and practical sessions under the supervision of an experienced RYA Powerboat Trainer.

Entry requirements:

  • RYA Powerboat Level 2 (Advanced and/or Safety boat recommended),
  • First Aid
  • VHF recommended
  • A good all round boat handling ability and good theoretical knowledge.
  • Pre-assessment, a RYA trainer will see if you are up to standard before attending the course.

Minimum age: 16

Course duration: 3 days

RYA Personal Watercraft Proficiency Training

RYA PERSONAL WATERCRAFT PROFICIENCY CERTIFICATE / Jet Ski / Superyachts

The RYA Personal Watercraft Proficiency certificate is used all over the world by Superyacht deck crew, Yachtmasters, Stewardesses, charters, safety and rescue services. This training course gives a great introduction into safe driving for anyone using PWCs (Jet Skis)

Our one-day training course is the doorway to this exciting watersport. The course is mainly practical starting with an introduction to the main parts of the PWC and safety equipment and features. Later progressing to rules of the road and higher speed turns. This course is a great addition to anyone looking to work on Superyachts as deckhand or stewardess.

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

RYA Powerboat and PWC (Jet Ski) Instructors are in demand within the Superyacht industry and back home in Cape Town. The Super Yachts have a range of watersports toys for the guests. The PWCs (Jet Skis) drivers need a license in many parts of the world. Get ahead of the game with an instructor qualification you can train the yacht guests. RYA Advanced Instructor Course

RYA ADVANCED INSTRUCTOR COURSE

The Advanced course is for the skilled helmsman looking to learn and consolidate his abilities. This could be for personal development or needed to work commercially. The Advanced Instructor is a combination of highly skilled helmsman and very experienced powerboat instructor.

The course develops these skills and fine tunes the delivery to make the instructor a knowledgeable instructor. Successful completion of this course enables existing instructors to teach the Intermediate and Advanced courses.

Entry requirements:

  • RYA Powerboat Instructor with 100+ teaching hours
  • Intermediate course
  • Advanced Powerboat course
  • Yachtmaster coastal Theory
  • First Aid
  • VHF license
  • Advanced Exam C of C. Not required if hold Yachtmaster Power C of C.

Minimum age: 18

Course duration: 2 days, day and night training.

Dates: We train 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. We have courses running every month and can fit into your needs.
